Simple Video Analysis for Sports Coaches

The November Seminar in our 2016/17 Club Development Seminar Series is Simple Video Analysis on Monday 14th November
What will the Workshop cover?
The seminar will cover how coaches can effectively use low-cost and time-efficient simple video analysis to help to improve the performance of their athletes/teams. We will look at the application of video analysis for technique/technical analysis and also for tactical analysis. Attendees will get hands-on experience with software that is freely available.

 The following topics will be covered:

  • Why is video analysis effective? 
  • What hardware (cameras, tripods etc.) and software is best to use?
  • How and when should we give feedback to athletes? 
  • Stats - The good, the bad and the?
  • Storing and sharing video online 
  • Cropping video for a feedback session
  • Tips for successful video analysis


WORKSHOP PRESENTER | MICHAEL HANLON
Michael Hanlon is a lecturer and researcher in biomechanics and performance analysis at Waterford Institute of Technology. He lectured previously at the University of Ulster, following the completion of his PhD at the University of Limerick. His background is in the biomechanical analysis of individual technique, however this has broadened to the more general field of performance analysis over the past seven years. Michael has experience of the applied use of video analysis for both individual and team-based sports notably with paralympic silver medallist Orla Barry (biomechanical analysis of discus throwing). Michael has also coordinated some performance analysis with Waterford United (Soccer) and The Belfast Giants (Ice Hockey).
