30M Sports Capital Grants Programme Announced

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, and the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan TD, have announced that the 2017 Sports Capital Programme will be open for applications from 9am Monday 23 January 2017 on www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie.

IMPORTANT! Clubs must be registered on OSCAR to apply for Sports Capital Grants

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan TD, recently indicated that a new Sports Capital Programme may be announced in the coming months.  Therefore it is important that any clubs considering applying in the next or future rounds ensure they are in a position to do so by firstly registering with the online system OSCAR.

Go For Life Circuit Training for over 50's

We coordinated circuit training in Dungarvan Sports Centre for older adults during September and October. We are delighted that thirty five older adults took part in at least one session where the craic and banter were matched only by the improvements in physical fitness.

Walk for Life Series a great success!

Congratulations to the 98 individuals who took part in at least one of the five walks in our Walk for Life Series in September and October. 76 people took part in the final walk on the Deise Greenway in Durrow.

Club Representatives attend Mental Heath Seminar

The WSP Club Development Seminar Series continued on Monday 10th October with the Minding Your Mental Health Club Support Seminar at WIT Sports Arena. The Seminar coincided with World Mental Health Day, thirty eight people from sixteen clubs representing thirteen sports/organisations attended.

Walk Waterford on the Greenway at Durrow Sunday 16th October @2pm

The fourth walk in the Walk Waterford Autumn Series was held on Sunday 9th October along the Anne Valley Walk in Dunhill. The weather was gorgeous and the participants all thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful scenic walk , the children had great fun looking for fairy doors along the way.

The WSP Club Development Seminar Series began on Monday 19th September with Gary Walsh delivering a seminar on Strength and Conditioning for sports coaches. Thirty five people from twenty two clubs representing nine sports attended the seminar held in Waterford Warriors Gym.

Walk Waterford is back for the Autumn

Walk Waterford is back, with five walks which will give you a chance to get out and get active whilst enjoying the beautiful Waterford countryside. Walk Waterford is organised by Waterford Sports Partnership and led by staff and trained walking leader volunteers.

Over 50's - Walk for Life 5km Challenge

We are hosting 5 walks for people over 50. The aim of the series is to give people the opportunity to create links with others in their locality and experience some of our wonderful Waterford walks.

On Monday 12th September WSP ran a mini active leadership training with twenty new volunteers from the Dungarvan Special Olympics Club.

Buntús Start is a National physical activity programme which Waterford Sports Partnership (WSP), Waterford City and County Childcare Committees and the HSE have rolled out across Waterford over the last 10 years. This year we are delighted to offer childcare providers Buntús Start Refresher Training to give early year’s settings new ideas on physical activity.

Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford 2016

The 10th Anniversary 2016 Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford part of the An Post Cycle Series, Sport Ireland initiative of five cycling events throughout Ireland in 2016 took place on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st August and another chapter in the history of this great event was written!

Sports Ability Forum

On Monday 15th August WSP held its first Sports Ability Forum meeting in the Viking Hotel. We had excellent attendance for our first meeting with representatives from IWA Sport, IWA Waterford, SHBI, CRC Waterford, FAI, GAA and Munster Rugby.

Walking For All

WSP ran an exciting new walking programme during July and August. Organisations were given the opportunity to take part in three fortnightly fully accessible led walks. The aim of the walks was to showcase some of Waterford most beautiful walking trails that the groups can visit in their own time.

National Recreation Week 2016

Waterford Sports Partnership, in conjunction with Waterford City and County Council, worked in partnership with the GAA to coordinate a range of activities for National Recreation Week which took place from Sunday 3rd July to Saturday 9th July. National Recreation Week is funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and this year’s theme focused on “Remembering 1916”.
