Active Body Active Mind - Week Four

It was Week Four of the Active Body Active Mind Programme with eight women taking part in an introductory Surfing session in Bunmahon Surf School.

Waterford Sports Partnership was delighted to see such a great turnout for Walk Waterford’s second walk in this year’s Autumn series. On Sunday 29th September 19 leisure walkers attended the 1.8km (plus optional additional 1.8km) World Heart Day walk in Kilbarry Nature Park.

Irish Sport calls on government to invest in sporting jobs

- Submission asks Government to invest ONE Euro for every citizen in fund to create jobs.
- Sport seeks €4.58 million – but notes €1.5 million will go back to Exchequer in taxes.
- Fund to create jobs and deliver participation programmes
- Sport confident that 150 jobs can be created immediately

Week two of the Active Body Active Mind Programme in Dunhill and participants were introduced to the wonderful world of walking in Waterford! Nine women took part in a workshop in Dunhill Education Centre and a walk on the Anne Valley Trail.

Garda Vetting for Sports Clubs

What clubs and volunteers need to know and do now! In 2013, new legislation regarding Garda Vetting will come into force (National Vetting Bureau Act 2012). Anyone who has on-going regular contact with children, in the field of leisure or sport (paid or voluntary), other than those who assist occasionally or in the event of a family or personal relationship, must be vetted.

Developing the Socio-economic Potential of Waterways Conference

South Tipperary Sports Partnership is delighted to host, in partnership with South Tipperary County Council, this exciting conference on developing the socio-economic potential of waterway corridors.

Active Body Active Mind Up & Running

The Active Body Active Mind programme for female social welfare recipients got under way this week with thirteen women taking part. This eight week programme is being run by Waterford Sports Partnership and Dunhill Education with the aim of improving  lifestyle management and professional skills and increasing physical activity through local sports taster sessions.

Bike for Life Programme a great success!!

Waterford Sports Partnership has just finished running an exciting new programme called “Bike for Life. This new programme was developed by Cycling Ireland and funded by Get Ireland Active, Health Service Executive (HSE) and Women in Sport. The Bike for Life programme ran for eight weeks with 44 women signing up to the programme in Waterford City and County.

Parkour Training for young people in Waterford

Waterford Sports Partnership is delighted to be able to offer a Parkour Training Course for young people in Waterford City.

Go For Life Grant Scheme open for applications!

The Go for Life Small Grant Scheme is now open. The scheme is aimed at encouraging older participants and is used by groups to buy equipment, run sports events or try new activities. Applications have already begun to arrive from groups and clubs that cater to older people across Ireland.
