WSP Staff take part in the Sports Council Challenge

Throughout the month of May, Waterford Sports Partnership took part in the Sports Council Challenge. The challenge is an Irish Sports Council initiative that aims to encourage workplaces to increase their physical activity over four weeks and work towards becoming a healthier workforce.

WSP staff each used an activity tracker and set weekly goals to help motivate them to increase their levels of activity. The range of activities the staff took took part in included Walking, Cycling, Running, Camogie, Swimming, Rugby, Boxing, Dancing, Pilates, Spinning, Circuit Training and Weight Lifting.

By the end of the challenge, WSP staff had clocked up over 102 hours of exercise collectively, that’s enough time to fly around the world in an airplane…twice! On average, the team did 31 minutes of activity per day each; this was a great achievement given that the Department of Health recommends 30 minutes of activity daily.

To finish off the challenge, we decided we wanted to cycle the 50km Kelly Cruise one of the routes of the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford! A team of eight tackled the route, which took us on a loop through Cappoquin and Villierstown. The challenge and the cycle were thoroughly enjoyed by all, and we are looking to set our sights on the 100km Kelly Heritage Route next!
