Personal Coaching Skills Seminar

Waterford Sports Partnership hosted the first of three Coaching Seminars in the Kingfisher Club, Waterford on Monday 22nd October. The first seminar Personal Coaching Skills was tutored by Peter Jones (Waterford Sports Partnership), Declan O'Leary (Coaching Ireland) and John O'Neill (Munster Rugby Development Officer). Coaches from Waterford City RFC, Na Gaeil GAA Club, Dunhill GAA Club, St. Saviours Boxing Club, De la Salle GAA Club, Waterpark RFC, Cricket Ireland, Na Laoch Dall Archery Club, KCK Athletic Club and Ballygunner GAA Club were all in attendance on the night.
The Seminar was a mixture of theory which was presented by Declan and practical which was tutored by Peter and John. Participants had the opportunity to take part in two small sessions run by Peter and John, where they demonstrated tips for organisation of a coaching session, timing/flow of session positioning and communication. Each coach was then giving the opportunity to plan and run a session for a small group and then received feedback from the tutors on areas they could improve on. The Seminar was a huge success with participants saying it was a very “enjoyable and informative seminar”. The calibre of the speakers made the evening informative, interactive and highly relevant to all present.

The next seminar Warm Ups Cool Downs and Stretching will take place on Monday 12th November in the Kingfisher Club, Waterford from 7.00pm – 10.30pm This seminar will cover effective game related warm ups, cool downs, and dynamic and static stretching and will include demonstrations on all three areas. This seminar will be tutored again by Peter, Declan and John, who will be joined by Jason Ryan, former Wexford Football Manger and PE Teacher at Coláiste Cathail Naofa, Dungarvan). As part of the Seminar participants will get a chance to deliver their own session to fellow group members and gain constructive feedback which will help to develop their own coaching skills.

The cost of the seminar is €10 per person. Booking is essential as places are limited.
